OQ Trading (OQT) is the international energy and commodity trading arm of the Government of Oman, with a remit to source, transport, trade, and market qualifying commodity products in the global marketplace. Initially operating under the brand Oman Trading International (OTI), OQT was incorporated in 2006 in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) as a joint venture between OQ (Oman Oil Company at the time) and a leading independent trading company and, following a successful 10-year partnership, in January 2016 became a wholly owned government entity.
OQT has matured to a best-in-class operating model for commodity trading, with a geographical reach which has grown over time, far beyond the HQ in Dubai, to include a network of offices located across key markets and trading hubs in Houston, London, Rotterdam, Shanghai and Singapore, as well as a representative office in Oman.
As a strategic partner to OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries (OQRPI), OQT manages all OQRPI’s international trade for refined products and aromatics. This includes procuring all feedstocks, blend components and trading all finished product exports for OQRPI. OQT is also the exclusive offtaker for the other OQ assets in Oman, including the OMIFCO plant in Sur which is an OQ joint venture. In addition to its crude oil and condensate offtake from OQ Exploration & Production (OQEP), OQT has a considerable allocation of Oman Export Blend (OEB) crude from Oman’s Ministry of Energy & Minerals. Furthermore, alongside Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), OQT is joint supplier and offtaker for the OQ8 refinery at Duqm – a joint venture between Kuwait Petroleum International and OQ.
Our growth journey has not only seen us expand beyond the geographical boundaries of Oman with trading activities across the globe, but also entailed diversification of our product suite. Recognising the importance of food and energy security globally and the criticality of a lower carbon future, our portfolio has grown to include fertilisers, greener fuels such as LNG, and emissions, in addition to petrochemicals, refined products and crude oil.
We have a reputation as a trusted and reliable partner, facilitating the flow of commodities to areas of demand and providing a suite of logistical, risk management and financial solutions to our counterparts. Through extensive third-party trading activities, a talented and creative team of employees, an appropriate risk appetite and some limited value chain integration, OQT has pushed well beyond its natural remit to successfully deliver market-leading returns for the shareholder
